Interested in raising sheep regeneratively but have no idea on how to get started? Or maybe you just got sheep for the first time and realize there's still a lot you don't know? Come join us for our 'Sheep 101' workshop, where we'll cover all the basics of how to care for and raise sheep on your farm or homestead.

Learn about:

How to care for sheep through all 12 months of the year, including their specific care needs in winter and summer

Different breeds and their different needs

What vaccinations are important to sheep (and which ones you can skip) and how to safely adminster them every year

Using FAMACHA and body scoring to keep track of vital sheep health cues to keep your sheep healthy and manage parasite levels

When you should and shouldn't castrate male sheep and how to do it safely

When you should and shouldn't tail dock sheep and how to do it safely

How shearing works and the advantages of shearing before and after lambing

The ins and outs of breeding sheep and managing the most stressful time of year for any shepherd: lambing season!

The importance of rotational grazing systems and the benefits of regenerative and organic practices over conventional sheep husbandry

A variety of different ways you can use wool from your sheep
Receive hands-on experience with:

How to safely catch and handle sheep
- Setting up rotational grazing areas for sheep with mobile electric fencing
- Safely administering ear tags
- Banding/wethering male sheep
Workshop Cost
The cost of the workshop is $60/person. Refund policy: If you cancel your registration at least one week in advance, you will receive a full refund. Cancellations less than a week before the workshop or no-shows are non-refundable. If we cancel the workshop on our end, we will refund all registrations 100%.

Who is this workshop for?
​
This workshop is aimed at beginners or anyone who is fairly new to raising sheep. This workshop is also geared mostly towards adults, but tweens and teens (accompanied by adults) may also find this workshop fun and informative if they have an active interest in sheep or 4-H.
